Job Description

In the absence of and along with the Center Director, the Assistant Center Director is responsible for operating a child care center for children in a manner that contributes to their growth and development and is consistent with the goals and philosophy of Lehigh Valley Children’s Centers. Along with the director, the Assistant Center Director supervises center staff including teachers and auxiliary personnel. This position oversees the program in accordance with the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services regulations and where applicable, Keystone STARS requirements.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works with the Center Director to improve and/or maintain full enrollment at center, conducts tours of center with potential families and meets with enrolling families for pre-placement if the Center Director is unavailable
  • Assists with center staff coverage and works in classroom as needed
  • Works with the Center Director to provide the fiscal department with ongoing information on enrollments, transfers and withdrawals.
  • Ensures orderly transfer of records and other DHS regulated paper work
  • Assists the Center Director in the maintenance of and timely submittal of all records and reports required by LVCC Administration office: tuition, drop-in, scholarship, center attendance, CACFP meal count and attendance records, petty cash, time sheets, staff and child accident/incident reports, child health records, ongoing child progress summaries, staff physicals, status sheets, family questionnaires, etc.
  • Works with the Center Director to ensure that on-the-job orientation for new employees, substitutes, and volunteers is completed.
  • Develops and coordinates with the Center Director workshop/seminar registrations and coverage
  • Plans and works with teachers to assure that classroom goals and objectives are mutually set and understood; that all activities are carried on in a consistent, developmentally appropriate manner
  • Works with the Center Director to send out family questionnaires and family information
  • Develops family meetings and events to raise awareness of the center and activities taking place
  • Attends seminars and classes for continuing education in current theories, practices, and developments in the field of child care. Completes a CPR and/pediatric first aid course within the first year of employment, and takes refresher courses to update it when it expires
  • Responsible for carrying out Lehigh Valley Children’s Centers health, safety and child supervision policies and procedures and ensuring that staff are trained and equipped with the proper supports
  • Encourages and facilitates communication and cooperation between families and the center
  • Provides leadership while establishing effective staff relationships based on mutual respect
  • Maintains high standards of professional ethics and confidentiality in regard to children, staff and families
  • Models good health habits; complies with Lehigh Valley Children’s Centers dress code
  • Receives updated physical every two years or as requested by LVCC HR personnel
  • Attends family meetings and supports extra curricular activities of the center and organization
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field including 30 ECE credits
    and
  • Obtain a Center Director Credential within two 2 ½ years of date of hire. A Continues Quality Improvement Plan must be submitted within the first 30 days of employment.
    and
  • Staff member must be in active pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in ECE or a related field.
    or
  • Staff member must have a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education including 30 ECE credits.
    and
  • Obtain a Center Director Credential within two 2 ½ years of date of hire.
  • A Continues Quality Improvement Plan must be submitted within the first 30 days of employment. 
  • One year work experience related to the care and development of children
  • One year supervisory experience
