Kiwanis Field Day Picnic May 2016 0001Large ResCropped

Planning a field day for 160 preschoolers is no easy task. Ask our generous friends at the Kiwanis Club of Allentown who hosted their eighth consecutive field day and picnic for LVCC's preschoolers. It takes a community of volunteers and staff, as well as hours of preparation.

Many thanks to the Kiwanis Club of Allentown, the Key Club volunteers, and especially the significant efforts of Kiwanians Keith and Jessica Reynolds for executing another successful event for LVCC’s preschoolers. We would also like to recognize LVCC Board Member and Kiwanian Tom Harp for coordinating the event with LVCC.

LVCC bused the staff, preschoolers and Pre-K Counts students from three of our Allentown locations to the Memorial Rose Garden pavilions where the Kiwanis Club assembled activity stations across the park. The children worked together in teams through various relays and obstacle courses, all while being cheered on by their friends. They practiced throwing, kicking, running, jumping, and balancing. Student volunteers from the Key Clubs at William Allen, Parkland, Salisbury Township, and Emmaus High Schools were instrumental in operating the high-energy activities.

The big highlight of the day - MeLVin from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms made an appearance to try out his throwing and punting skills with the children!

After a busy day of games and sports, the children settled down to a delicious picnic lunch purchased and prepared by the Kiwanis Club. Hundreds of hot dogs were grilled for the hungry children and volunteers.

Our gratitude goes out to the Kiwanis Club of Allentown for sponsoring and implementing this special day for our young learners. We look forward to next year - every year is bigger and better!
