Center Director

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITES:

Responsible for operating a child care center for children in a manner that contributes to their growth and development and is consistent with the goals and philosophy of Lehigh Valley Children’s Centers. Supervises center staff including teachers and auxiliary personnel. Oversees the program in accordance with the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services regulations and where applicable, Keystone STARS requirements.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for center staff coverage; schedules employees so coverage is adequate and appropriate to changing needs of center; coordinates substitutes if needed.

  • Responsible for improving and/or maintaining full enrollment at center, conducts tours of center with potential parents.

  • Provides Fiscal Department with ongoing information on enrollments, transfers and withdrawals; and reports enrollment in centers on a bi-weekly basis. Ensures orderly and timely transfer of records.

  • Meets with parents for pre-placement which includes completing LVCC application form, fee agreement, emergency information card, CACFP form, child's physical examination form, required parental permission forms, and follows-up on incomplete information. Updates files every 6 months including parent’s signature.

  • Responsible for the collection and recording of parent fees, contacts parents in writing about delinquent fee payments and late charges, and provides follow-up information to appropriate LVCC staff. Monitors fee payments from other funding sources i.e. TANF, CCW

  • Responsible for compliance with local and state regulations and yearly DPW inspection.

  • Monitors the expenditures of funds allocated to the center to ensure that funds are spent in accordance with budget and Administrative Office directives. Provides input on budget to supervisor.

  • Responsible for maintenance of and timely submittal of all records and reports required by Administrative Office: tuition, drop-in, bi-weekly enrollment count, center attendance, CACFP meal count and attendance records, food inventories, monthly menus, receipts, invoices, petty cash, time sheets, employee evaluations, staff and child accident/incident reports, child health records, ongoing child progress summaries, staff physicals, status sheets, W-4 forms, child abuse and state police forms, I-9's, parent questionnaires, etc.

  • Responsible for coordinating all scheduled events within center, i.e. health screenings, semi-annual parent meetings, monthly staff meetings, fund raising events twice yearly, parent conferences three times each year.

  • Acts as liaison between center staff and Administrative Office. Relays pertinent information to center staff and appropriate Administrative Office personnel. Attends required meetings

  • Responsible for conducting a second interview in hiring all employees for center in conjunction with the appropriate HR component.

  • Provides on-the-job orientation to new employees, substitutes, and volunteers. Ensures completion of New Staff Orientation training/packet within the first 90 days of employment.

  • Ensures that all center staff is evaluated at the end of each month during the six month introductory period, at the end of the first year, and once a year thereafter. Directly responsible for evaluating Head Teachers and all auxiliary staff.

  • Ensures that all staff complete and maintain a PDR which is kept with the staff person

  • Reviews evaluations for assistant teachers and teacher aides.

  • Approves personal, vacation, floating holiday, bereavement, and compensatory time requests. Refers other requests to Administrative Office.

  • Keeps staff record of personal days used.

  • Oversees curriculum planning and ensures that weekly lesson plans are posted and implemented.

  • Plans and works with teachers to assure that classroom goals and objectives are mutually understood and that all activities are carried on in a consistent, developmentally appropriate manner.

  • Sends out parent questionnaires and information updates twice a year.

  • Ensures individual child progress reports are completed within 45 days of enrollment and other times during the year when applicable by Star Level.

  • Coordinates referrals to services and communication with outside agencies or schools in conjunction with the child's parent(s).

  • Attends seminars and classes for continuing education in current theories, practices, and developments in the field of child care. Completes a CPR and Pediatric First Aid course within the first year of employment, and takes refresher courses to update it when it expires.

  • Orders supplies and equipment in conjunction with Fiscal purchasing personnel.

  • Responsible for carrying out LVCC health, safety and child supervision policies and procedures. Is involved in determining when a sick child should be sent home, when doctor's note is required, etc. in conjunction with Supervisor.

  • Supervises the cook/server and monitors adherence to CACFP regulations.

  • Responsible for maintenance and upkeep of all space used by LVCC; when appropriate supervises housecleaning staff or service.

  • Encourages and facilitates communication and cooperation between families and the center.

  • Provides leadership while establishing effective staff relationships based on mutual respect.

  • Maintains high standards of professional ethics and confidentiality in regard to children, staff and parents.

  • Models good health habits; complies with LVCC's dress code. Receives physical and tuberculin test per DPW guidelines.

  • Ensures that parent teacher conferences are held at least three times a year depending on Star level. Meets with staff and parents when need arises.

  • Attends parent meetings and supports extracurricular activities of the center or corporation.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BA in early childhood education, child development, or a related field (special education, elementary education or the human services field and 30 credits in ECE)

  • At least one (1) year of experience with children

  • Center Director Credential within two (2) years of date of hire

  • Supervisory experience

  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills, internet and e-mail

  • Be able to travel 75% of job requirement

  • Bilingual a plus

  • Maintains appropriate physical & TB testing requirements
